Opening Statement

Matthew Christou is the operational and systems brain behind Big League Clean, the commercial cleaning company he co-founded with Nash Hutter. He’s responsible for the standardized processes that let the company hold a 96.5% client retention rate while scaling from Denver to San Diego to Las Vegas.

The Background

Matt grew up in Morristown, New Jersey, before moving west. His professional background combines two things: corporate sales discipline and collegiate athletics.

In corporate sales, speed of response, communication clarity, and reliable results are non-negotiable. Deals close because the rep delivers what they promised. Deals fall apart when they don’t. That standard transferred directly into the way Matt thinks about cleaning operations.

The athletics background filled in the rest. Standardized processes, team discipline, and performance under pressure are the substance of a winning program. Most commercial cleaning companies do not operate that way. The industry is built around interchangeable crews, hourly billing, and account managers who answer email when they can. Matt brought an optimization-first mindset into a category where consistency is the exception, not the standard.

His motto sets the bar for the whole operation: “Aim for perfection and settle for excellence.”

His Role at Big League Clean

Matt drives operational systems and standardized processes across every Big League Clean market. The work breaks into three buckets:

“The first clean is easy. Anyone can show up and impress on day one. What separates a serious commercial cleaning partner from the rest is the 50th clean, when the contract feels routine, the buyer stops checking, and the crew either holds the standard or it does not. Our entire operation is built around that 50th clean.”

The Systems That Drive Results

Operational consistency in commercial cleaning starts before the first crew member walks into your building. Matt’s systems begin at the walkthrough: every Big League Clean account opens with an on-site scoping pass that documents the facility’s layout, traffic patterns, sensitive areas, frequency requirements, and the specific accountability standards the client expects. That document becomes the contract. Not a generic SLA, but a facility-specific scope of work.

From there, the same set of operational tools runs every account. Assigned crews who know the building. A named account manager who runs bi-weekly check-ins. A documented escalation path for any concern, with a 14-minute average response time during business hours. A quality verification cycle that catches drift before it becomes a complaint.

The work is not visible to the buyer most of the time, and that is the point. When a commercial cleaning partner is operating well, the facility manager stops thinking about cleaning. The trash is empty. The restrooms are stocked. The lobby looks like a lobby should. The account just runs. That outcome is the result of the systems Matt designed and continues to refine across Denver, San Diego, and Las Vegas.

Why This Matters for Clients

Matt built the processes that make Big League Clean predictable. Not just good on the first clean, but consistent on the 50th. For facility managers, property managers, and operations leads who have been burned by vendors who showed up strong and faded after the contract was signed, that consistency is what changes the math.
